Doodlebug

September 2004, Manchester

Doodlebug originates in Manchester and takes place in cities such as London and Tokyo each year. Artists are given unusual spaces to go wild with a handful of Posca pens and the result is an exciting world of strange characters and abstract shapes. For Doodlebug 7 we were let loose in Cornerhouse in Manchester and I was working on the walls of the bar space, creating large scale images taken from my Lucky Penny project.

I found the experience quite intimidating initially, feeling overwhelmed by the vast space that I was working in, but soon enjoying the liberating act of drawing onto a nice white wall. As the building was in use during the event, I had a few interesting interactions with people who were passing through and often had an audience for my doodle.
