FRED Goodies

I have just returned from a fantastic weekend in Cumbria, where I went to attend the closing party for FRED. I picked up some of the lovely badges and other goodies that have been produced to accompany the guide I designed for the event. There are enamel badges, sew-on patches and walking stick badges (for hiking sticks). If you are quick, you might still be able to find these in Tourist Information offices throughout Cumbria.

Another thing to look out for and participate in at the moment is my project commissioned for the f.city festival originating at Folly in Lancaster. You can see the project here, and join in here.

Also opening this week is a group exhibition of ‘Objects in Waiting’ – a gathering together of objects and ideas that artists had intended to use in their work, but never got round to using. You can find out more about the exhibition, which takes place at Sheffield Hallam University, by clicking here.

Launching this week!

On Friday, my new project Areas of Outstanding Natural Banality will launch as part of the f.city festival in Lancaster. You can find out more about the festival here, and see the work by other artists and practitioners. My own work can be viewed here. Why not join the Flickr Group and share your own photos and locations on the map?

In the meantime, I am heading up to the Lakes to undertake a four day mini-residency at Fold Gallery. I might just stock up on Kendal Mint Cake while I’m there :)

New Projects

I’ve been very busy recently, and have a few new projects coming up in the next couple of months. First of all will be the exhibition no place, like home, which will be showing in heritage sites across Lincolnshire. My work – the result of my 91 mile run from Nottingham to Skegness – will be showing in the waiting room at Boston railway station. To find out more about the exhibition, visit the website of the Beacon Art Project, who commissioned the work. This exhibition runs throughout September and into October, when I will be in residence at Fold Gallery in the Lake District. Along with 7 other artists, I will be taking part in teetotum, which you can read about here.

All of my upcoming projects somehow overlap and there are many connections in terms of location and output. Whilst in residence at Fold Gallery, the annual art invasion that is FRED will be beginning in locations throughout Cumbria. I took part in FRED a couple of years ago with my pay-and-display car park tickets, and this year I have been commissioned to create the FRED guide and overall branding for the event.

In addition to these projects, I am working on a very exciting piece for the BBC and Arts Council England and an interactive web based piece for Folly in Lancaster as part of f:city.

Phew! Watch this space!
